Richard Skoyler has tried a treatment method that has so far been tested on melanoma patients.

Australian doctor Richard Skoyler, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma (a very aggressive type of brain tumor that has a very low chance of survival a year after diagnosis) a year ago, has announced that his latest MRI showed no recurrence of the tumor. This is reported by the BBC, which says the 57-year-old doctor tested a study he developed to treat skin cancer, but in his case applied to a brain tumor.

“I’m just thrilled and delighted… I’m very happy,” he told the aforementioned media outlet.

In the movie Imaginary Friends, actor and director John Krasinski talks about his childhood with a friend who was a figment of his ardent imagination.

A friend to not feel lonely or to experience fantastic adventures. A friend to face fears, such as fear of the dark, of being alone, of going to kindergarten for the first time, knowing that mom and dad have to go to work. And when that friend isn’t there, it’s left to the imagination to adapt it to fit.

In “Imaginary Friends,” actor and director John Krasinski decided to talk a little about his childhood and the magic that is part of childhood. “Imaginary friends are not only delightful creations of our minds, they are also time capsules for our hopes, dreams and ambitions,” he commented during the presentation of the movie. But what are they really and why do children feel the need to create them? We talked to Marta Rizzi, a psychologist and psychotherapist with a cognitive-constructivist orientation, about this.

“The real reason for their existence is still unknown. It is a phenomenon that can usually emerge around the 2nd or 3rd year of a child’s life and then disappear around the age of 8, which is the age at which a child “acquires a number of cognitive abilities and skills that allow them to reflect on themselves and manage their emotions”.

The report indicates that more than half of young people between the ages of 15 and 19 claim to have had at least one sexual encounter involving penetration.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young people, especially adolescents, are on the rise in Spain. At the launch of the Ministry of Health’s new campaign to prevent sexually transmitted infections among young people, the seriousness of the problem was revealed.

Mar Vera Garcia, president of the SEIMC STI research group, explains that, according to the latest survey report in 2020, “more than half of young people aged 15 to 19 years, up to 52%”, said they had had at least one penetrative sexual contact. “We’re seeing an increasingly early onset of sexual activity,” Vera says.

With regard to various STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia, young people between 20 and 24 years of age are the most vulnerable group. Regarding HIV, “in 2022, 2,956 new diagnoses were registered, of which 10.6% are among those under 25 years of age,” emphasizes Victoria Hernando Sebastian, researcher at the National Center for Epidemiology. “We see that the majority of these new diagnoses are in the 20 to 24 years old category (88.6%), and 10% are between 15 and 19 years old.”

Bestial acts, inhumane procedures, and lack of social empathy burden the grief of those who have lost a loved one.

“At home, the photo albums were never opened again.” Alberto tells it in a calm voice. “I open them secretly.” His brother Eduardo died at a young age in 1997. “If I do it alone, no one will be as sad as me.” He died by suicide. “It’s an intuitive, violent, irrational, unnatural death”. He didn’t say this until 2020. Alberto, journalist Alberto Gomez , delivers in Against the Silence (Libros.com) his testimony of loss, wounding, and the journey to coexist with pain. His story brings together the experiences of others with whom he shares a grief group in Barcelona.

Genoveva also lost her brother to suicide nearly a decade ago. “These types of death have many additional characteristics, so those of us who have suffered them are called survivors,” he elaborates . There are so many things that make those close to you vulnerable. Survivors experience deep pain. “Grief does not end, it is manageable, it is always with you ” , explains Juan José Escudero, whose son Nico left under similar circumstances at the age of 19. The survivors are in danger. He himself, he admits, was haunted by “black holes” at the time.

José Carlos Soto has also dedicated himself to prevention since his daughter Ariadna, who also committed suicide, died in 2015. “In that moment, we became different patients,” he recalls. In the midst of the drama, he and his partner were overwhelmed by the confusion that prevailed in the house. Lots of people doing their jobs, striving for efficiency rather than delicacy, making unfortunate mistakes. Since that day, he has also tried to train those who assist in such emergencies. “I’d rather have someone give us a hug without saying anything,” he says.

Study shows how altitude lowers blood oxygen levels and increases heart rate during sleep

Alcohol consumption during a flight, especially a long-haul flight, can be bad for your heart . The combination of sleep and high altitude already puts a strain on blood oxygen levels and heart rate, and alcohol also fatigues the cardiovascular system, even in healthy people.

A small study published in early June in Thorax (one of the respiratory medicine journals of the British Medical Journal) by scientists at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine of the German Aerospace Center shows this.

Researchers recruited healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 40: half slept in normal atmospheric conditions (at sea level) and the other half slept in a chamber simulating the pressurized conditions of an airplane cockpit at cruising altitude (2,438 meters above sea level.) ). In each group, half of the participants were asked to drink a moderate amount of alcohol (about two servings of alcohol) just before bedtime, and the other half slept without alcohol.
