“We must remember who the enemy really is, what we are defending and what the laws are supposed to protect,” Greta Thunberg and the four activists said in a joint statement. “We must remember that dozens of environmental activists are being prosecuted, fined and criminalized for actions that require measures backed by science.”

“Today’s verdict is a triumph for the right to protest,” said Greenpeace spokeswoman Maya Darlington. “It’s ridiculous that more and more climate activists are having to defend themselves in court for peacefully protesting against fossil fuel giants who are allowed to make billions in profits.”
Joanna Warrington, organizer of Fossil Free London, meanwhile recalled that dozens of environmental activists have found themselves behind bars since the law promoted by Rishi Sunak’s government came into effect. “We are facing an increasingly draconian justice system that has chosen to punish those fighting the climate crisis,” Warrington said.
