Xebo, one of the oldest gorillas at Barcelona Zoo, has died.

Xebo is a western lowland gorilla, one of four gorilla subspecies that inhabit western Central Africa, especially southern Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and northern Angola.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, the species is threatened with extinction.
